    Willie Kinch III

Willie Kinch III ‘22, a nursing graduate, made the most of his Sam Houston State experience—including being president of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, vice president of the NAACP, member of the honors college, and the student representative for his nursing cohort.

Despite not knowing many people when he first came to Sam Houston, Willie decided to use the opportunity to build his own thriving community here. It also allowed him to grow and figure out who he wanted to be.

Today, as a nursing graduate, he is happy to continue advocating for and serving those around him as he excels in his field.

  • Bearkat athletics is near and dear to my heart. Being an athlete at Sam Houston State has taught me that discipline and dedication will take you far and has given me teammates that will be part of my family for the rest of my life.

    Whitney Stahl

Whitney Stahl ’24, accounting major, dove right into Bearkat life. She's involved in volunteer work, six campus organizations, and holds an on-campus job. Thanks to small class sizes and mentor relationships with her professors, Whitney balances it all with her academic pursuits.

In fact, it's thanks to her professors that she learned of, applied for, and won the Regent Scholar Award, one of the highest honors bestowed from the Texas State University System. “It's really cool that I had the chance to represent Sam Houston State’s student body and show off what Sam has," she says.

After earning her bachelor's, Whitney will join the 45% of SHSU students who go on to also earn their graduate degrees here.
